Skyrim DawnguardToday PS 3 owners are receiving the Dawnguard expansion to Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Dawnguard, that was released this summer on Xbox 360 and PC, and provides a new questline for players to tackle.

In Dawnguard, a group of vampires is attempting to blot out the sun permanently. If they manage to accomplish this, they’ll be able to overrun all of Tamriel. Players can join up with a group of hunters to stop this from happening. In doing so, they’ll acquire new equipment including crossbows and Dragonbone weapons.

Alternately, you can side with the vampires. Doing so will allow players to transform into a Vampire Lord. This improved vampiric form comes with its own skill tree of abilities.

Bethesda planned to release Dawnguard through PSN much, much sooner. However, the development team had issues with bringing the content to the PS3. They decided to hold off on releasing the DLC until they could optimize it for that platform. Dawnguard normally costs $19.99 to download. However, for the next week, Bethesda is lowering the price down to $10. PS3 owners might not consider that an adequate apology for the long wait they’ve had to endure but nonetheless, it’s a discount worth taking.

Canadian users will be able to download the French version of the content today, as will Latin American gamers hoping to play the game in Spanish. European PS3 owners will have to wait until Wednesday to download the content in any language. Today’s release means that all the Skyrim DLC produced to date is now on the PS3. Hearthfire and Dragonborn were released through PSN in the past two weeks.
