Skype has launched Skype 5.0 for Windows. Key changes include Facebook newsfeed and Phonebook integration as well as a new interface that is said to make calling, messaging and file sharing easier.
The Facebook integration lets Skype users post status or news feed updates as well as comment on or like the postings of their friends from Skype. It’s also possible to call and text Facebook friends directly. The Facebook Phonebook in Skype allows users to call and SMS their Facebook friends directly on their mobile phones and landlines with just a few clicks. If your Facebook friend is also a Skype contact, you can make a free Skype-to-Skype call.
A free beta with the new Skype download lets users try video calling with more than two individuals. A dynamic view feature will focus on the person speaking. Video calling accounted for approximately 40% of all Skype-to-Skype minutes in the first half of 2010.
Most features of Skype 5.0 will reach the Mac in a new version at a later date.
