Skyhook Wireless, and Big in Japan, developer of the ShopSavvy personal shopping assistant for the Android-powered T-Mobile G1 phone, today announced that ShopSavvy has integrated the Skyhook Wireless Android SDK to enhance location performance. Although the Android OS offers a standard positioning system, developers must choose to integrate Skyhook Wireless’ Android SDK to deliver location that works reliably everywhere.
With ShopSavvy, consumers can scan product barcodes using their phone’s built-in camera to search for the best prices online and at nearby stores. The application uses location awareness to facilitate searches of local store inventories for products and prices.

Existing users must upgrade to ShopSavvy Version 3.3 -“ Gigan to take advantage of Skyhook Wireless integration. The Gigan release also includes faster barcode scanning, stealth mode, menu shortcut indicator, private mode, and Twitter integration.
