ABC has released the first footage of The Goldbergs that features Robert Englund’s triumphant return to the role of Freddy Krueger.
The episode, titled Nightmare on Elk Avenue will air this Wednesday, October 24. While he’s generally regarded as a terrifying figure, family matriarch Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey) doesn’t seem too intimidated by Mr. Knifey Hands.
Per ABC, the episode fittingly titled Nightmare on Elk Avenue centers on the fears of the show’s teenage protagonist, Adam, after seeing A Nightmare on Elm Street when it premiered way back in 1984. Enter Englund, who will reprise his iconic role for what he calls “a spooky valentine to the fans.”
The actor has portrayed Freddy Krueger at least 45 times, according to Google, in various film and TV outlets, including the long-running Nightmare on Elm Street series that culminated with 2003’s Freddy vs. Jason.
First Airing in 2013 and based on Goldberg’s childhood, The Goldbergs stars McLendon-Covey, as well as Jeff Garlin, Sean Giambrone, Troy Gentile, Hayley Orrantia, George Segal, AJ Michalka and Sam Lerner, with narration by Patton Oswalt.
