Scott Derrickson has reportedly quietly finalized a deal to direct a sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange for Marvel Studios.
Derrickson directed and co-wrote the first film and now search for a writer to pen the script is about to get underway, no word if co-writer and Derrickson’s go-to scribe C. Robert Cargill will also return on that front.
Benedict Cumberbatch will return as Stephen Strange, the good doctor-turned-master of the mystic arts, as will Benedict Wong, who plays his right-hand man, Wong. Rachael McAdams, who played Stephen Strange’s love interest, is likely to return as well.
Timetable-wise the plan is to work on the script throughout next year ahead of a Spring 2020 start and early 2021 release.
