Consumer electronics manufacture Scosche has unveiled the Rhythm, a pulse monitor and iOS app combo providing users a simple way to manage, track, and analyze workouts. The device combines to alternating LEDs with a photo sensor for accurate measurement of user’s pulse, with an accelerometer allowing the device to adjust for movement during exercise, allowing measurement of calories burned, speed, pace, route, and distance.

Rhythm’s neoprene strap fits over the muscular portion of the user’s forearm, instead of the conventional chest strap for pulse monitoring. Audio playback is wirelessly controllable from the armband, including play, pause, track selection, and volume adjustments. A lithium ion battery in the armband provides up to six hours of workout monitoring.

Workout data is stored in the cloud on Scosche servers. Data is accessible on the iOS application to allow for an enhanced workout detail view, display of lifetime training stats, as well as social media updating.

The Scosche Rhythm is available at the Apple Store or online at Apple.com or ATT.com for $100. Availability at Best Buy and other retailers is expected for the holiday season. The Rhythm app is available for free on the App Store.
