According to Entertainment Weekly, Samuel L. Jackson (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Kingsman: The Secret Service, The Hateful Eight) is in talks to board the Stephen King adaptation Revival. He would play the plum villain role of sinister Reverend Charles Jacobs, while the lead role of Jamie Morton has yet to be cast.

The novel is officially described as follows:

“In a small New England town, over half a century ago, a shadow falls over a small boy playing with his toy soldiers. Jamie Morton looks up to see a striking man, the new minister. Charles Jacobs, along with his beautiful wife, will transform the local church. The men and boys are all a bit in love with Mrs. Jacobs; the women and girls feel the same about Reverend Jacobs—including Jamie’s mother and beloved sister, Claire. With Jamie, the Reverend shares a deeper bond based on a secret obsession. When tragedy strikes the Jacobs family, this charismatic preacher curses God, mocks all religious belief, and is banished from the shocked town.’

“Jamie has demons of his own. Wed to his guitar from the age of thirteen, he plays in bands across the country, living the nomadic lifestyle of bar-band rock and roll while fleeing from his family’s horrific loss. In his mid-thirties—addicted to heroin, stranded, desperate—Jamie meets Charles Jacobs again, with profound consequences for both men. Their bond becomes a pact beyond even the Devil’s devising, and Jamie discovers that revival has many meanings.”

Director Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) has already penned the adaptation and is working with producer Michael De Luca (The Social NetworkFifty Shades of Grey). The project has been submitted to Universal for consideration but could find another home should they pass. Boone also intends to adapt King’s classic novel “The Stand” for the screen as well.

The prolific Jackson has another King adaptation titled Cell already in the can, reuniting him with 1408‘s John Cusack. He will also be seen this year in David Yates’ The Legend of Tarzan and Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. 2017 will see the actor in blockbuster franchise movies xXx: The Return of Xander Cage and Kong: Skull Island, and there’s no telling when his Nick Fury will pop up again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
