Samsung has previewed a new chip, named Orion, based on ARM’s Cortex-A9 architecture. The technology is based on the 45nm process, which is said to offer an improvement in power efficiency compared to A8-based chips. The dual-core Cortex-A9 processor, which runs at 1GHz, is capable of simultaneously running two display screens on a device and another screen connected via HDMI. When paired with the Mali-400 components in a system-on-a-chip (SoC) configuration, the hardware can decode 1080P video at 30fps. Overall graphics performance is said to be a five-fold jump from its predecessor.

Samsung’s chips are expected to be featured in the next Galaxy Tab.
