Samsung Electronics has been highlighting social awareness, by creating web based communities for their customers and by contibuting to a cause that customer base.

They recently launched Moms Like Us, an online social network for their Washers and Dryers that is meant to  celebrate “Life, Laundry and the Pursuit of Cleanliness.”

Developed by Cheil USA Interactive Group, the site  tries to balance  product information and social media. Participants can enter a sweepstakes to win a Washer and Dryer set, post and respond to messages, start their own groups within Moms Like Us, and take part in building Laundry-Pedia, an encyclopedia of laundry tips.

Along with product information, the site features four “Samsung Moms.” These moms are among a group of families that were given a new Samsung Washer and Dryer and asked to share their thoughts and user experiences.

“This is an exciting opportunity to launch a product line like this,” said Peggy Ang, VP of Marketing Communications at Samsung Electronics America. “I’m amazed and delighted by the response to our Washers and Dryers. It’s great to see both moms and dads alike interacting and sharing tips. I am very excited to see how the Moms Like Us network develops.”

Moms Like Us also features blog posts from Ree, The Pioneer Woman. She describes herself as “The wife of a rugged cattle rancher, the mother of four spirited children, all living on a cattle ranch in the middle of nowhere.”Her fresh perspective on being a modern mom is a perfect fit for this social media network.   The site launched in August and has seen its membership rise to over seventeen thousand people.

To demonstrate their committment to give back to the same community, Samsung has raised $3 million through its Breast Cancer Charity initiatives across Europe this year. To celebrate this achievement, Samsung is hosting its Pink Ribbon Gala Dinner at the Sheraton Hotel, Park Lane, London. The event will see Samsung present a cheque for $3 million to ambassadors from Breast Cancer Charities across 17 European countries.

Entertainment for the VIP guests at the Samsung Pink Ribbon Gala Dinner, will include a silent auction, a Ribbon of Life and a live performance from Beverley Knight. The Platinum selling artist Beverley Knight, widely regarded as the UK’s Queen of Soul, whose hits include -˜Shoulda Woulda Coulda’ and -˜Come As You Are’, is a well known supporter of UK charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Recently awarded an MBE for services to music and charity and a regular performer at -˜Pink’ events, she commented: “Breast cancer affects the women involved but also husbands, fathers, siblings, indeed all relatives and friends. The work that breast cancer charities do to raise awareness is vital and I am a keen supporter of these initiatives.”

“As a brand, we touch millions of people who choose and interact with our products, giving us the advantage of an instantly recognisable presence worldwide,” said In Soo Kim, President & CEO of Samsung Electronics Europe. “We strive to use our profile to help raise awareness and provide continued long-term support for breast cancer charities.”
