WeatherBug has announced today that Samsung has selected WeatherBug as a weather source for their new widget platform. The new pre-installed WeatherBug widget will initially be available on the Samsung Omnia II, which will be available with Verizon Wireless in the coming months.

“We are very pleased to be working with WeatherBug on the development and worldwide launch of our mobile widget platform,” said Kenny Lee, Vice President, Media Solutions Center at Samsung Electronics. “Given the popularity of weather information on mobile devices, we see this as a great opportunity to provide our customers with relevant information that can help enhance their daily lives and protect them from severe weather events.”

With the new WeatherBug widget, Samsung mobile users will be able to access current weather information from an icon on the Home screen of their mobile device. When clicked, the icon will lead to the WeatherBug ad-supported mobile Web site that includes live, local weather information for more than 45,000 locations worldwide. Detailed views of the seven day forecast, radar and satellite imagery, and camera images from the WeatherBug proprietary weather network are also available on the mobile Web site.

“We are thrilled to provide our live, local weather content to Samsung, a worldwide leader in mobile handsets. This is a great opportunity to bring the benefits of our weather network and unique content to millions of users around the globe,” said Chris Brozenick, Vice President and General Manager of Mobile for WeatherBug.
