GPS mapping application RouteBuddy released a bugfix upgrade to its recent v3.1 update. Called v3.1.1, the upgrade addresses several bugs as well as restores support for Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) users, fixing an issue that caused the program to be unable to launch in 10.5. The new version dramatically increases the speed of importing large geo-data files, speeds up the rendering of all maps available from the company, and includes more recording data.
The program, which is available for both Mac and Windows systems, now offers database and library feedback in the form of “progress sheets” during updates and imports, and now sorts number columns numerically in the Status Bar — in preparation for future geo-data editing features. There is also a new Toolbar Ruler that includes multi-part sections each with their own distance, as well as a total distance, with an easier-to-see ruler.
Height data is now available for the UK and “in build” for the rest of the world, with both Direct Travel (topographical maps) and Vehicle (road maps) supporting elevation graphs. Spot height is now shown at the cursor and dynamically repeated on the map, and other elements have been added for recording, including altitude (maximum and minimum), ascent and descent totals, duration, total distance, total flat distance, ascent and descent distances, and start/end points, notes and URL links.
The update also fixes an issue that resulted in a crash if two routes finished calculating at the same moment, fixes a memory leak when importing KML files, and two bugs that disallowed dismissing a progress bar after some operations. The update is free to all registered v3 users, and is available for OS X 10.5 and higher or Windows XP or later.
