Despite poor reviews, Roland Emmerich’s $100 million WWII  Veterans/Remembrance day weekend film Midway is heading for the No. 1 slot at the U.S. box office this weekend with an estimated $17.5 million for Lionsgate.

This take has easy beat early tracking’s $13 million prediction. Woody Harrelson, Luke Evans, Ed Skrein, Nick Jonas, Patrick Wilson, Darren Criss, Aaron Eckhart, Mandy Moore, and Dennis Quaid star in the independent film about the famed battle in the Pacific.

The film is coming out ahead of the Stephen King adaptation Doctor Sleep which is headed for a $13.5 million opening

Third place will be a battle between the family-friendly movie Playing with Fire and Paul Feig’s pooer reviewed holiday feature Last Christmas. Terminator: Dark Fate  look to be coming in at number round five with about $10 million in its second weekend.
