RedEye Universal Remote Control App Hits v2.70 for iOS

ThinkFlood has updated its RedEye universal remote control app to v2.70 for iOS, as well as brought the Android version out of beta with matching features and the same version number. The update sports refreshed graphics, full support for tablets, new button themes, personalized app backgrounds and the ability to create and edit devices and infrared codes using the browser. The RedEye is a hardware docking station for infrared devices that is controlled with the matching app.

The system, which uses a docking station to actually send the infrared signals to control TVs, stereos and other media and home theatre setups, also charges the devices and integrates with a home Wi-Fi network to control devices in other rooms as well. The iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad or Android device can use the charging station when not being held, eschewing the add-on case with infrared light used by most other “universal remote” systems.

Since the docking station stays near the devices being controlled, mobile devices can control and adjust settings from anywhere in the house where there’s a Wi-Fi signal. Old smartphones that are no longer in use can become “extra remotes” simply by adding the RedEye app, which supports iPhones going back to the original model and Android devices supporting v1.60 and up. The Android version must be initially configured using a desktop or notebook computer.

Additionally, the new v2.70 adds channel guide support and language localizations for northern, eastern and central Europe as well as Brazil, along with language support for French, Portuguese and Hebrew.

The RedEye hardware unit with adapters, power cord and instructions for use sells for $199, with the apps for iOS and Android offered free on their respective stores.
