Apple on Monday confirmed earlier reports that it would no longer issue updates or patch security holes in the QuickTime standalone version for Windows, ending 11 years of development.
A report from Trend Micro last week outlined two “heap overflow” security issues with QuickTime 7 for Windows, and said that it had contacted Apple about the issues to be told that the software would be “deprecated.” While no attack using the flaws has yet been seen “in the wild,” users are urged to uninstall QuickTime 7 for Windows to avoid future malicious exploits.
Apple published a guide to uninstalling the software last month.
