PS Vita to Launch on 22 February 2012 in North America, Europe

Sony will sell the PS Vita in the UK, Europe, USA, New Zealand, Canada, Africa, and Australia on the 22 February the company has confirmed at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco.

“For those looking to get their hands on the ultimate in handheld entertainment, I’m thrilled to let you know that starting on February 22, 2012, PS Vita will be available at major retailers in the United States, Canada, Latin America, and Europe,” said Jack Tretton, Sony Computer Entertainment America boss told the crowd – Pocket-lint included.

Meanwhile back in the UK and the company’s official blog detailed the launch program out of the US:

“We are happy to share a piece of news that you have all been waiting for: PlayStation Vita will be available throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Australasia from 22 February, 2012,” confirmed Sony via the company’s official blog in the UK.

The new handsheld gaming console will be available from $249.99, €249.99, £217 for the Wi-Fi model and $299, €299.99 £261 for the 3G/Wi-Fi model.

The Sony PS Vita, announced at this year’s E3 in Los Angeles, will come with a whopping 5-inch OLED screen and a powerful ARM Cortex A9 processor, giving it the power akin to the PS3 but for gaming on the go.

The PS Vita will go on sale in Japan on the 17 December.
