Pokémon GO is due for release sometime this year though it has no official release date yet. Some fans are speculating a February release date to match the 20th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise and others are suggesting it will be released towards the end of the year.
The augmented reality Pokémon game is coming exclusively to smartphones; Pokémon GO will not be released on the 3DS.
This is something Nintendo fans may not be too happy with however it is a smart move really; more people have smartphones than 3DS’s. Having Pokémon GO as a mobile game extends the potential reach of the game as not all Pokémon fans have upgraded to the latest Nintendo handheld console, it also means the game could attract new potential fans to the game and the Pokémon franchise.
And let’s be blunt a 3DS version would be better than the planned cell phone version. While the 3DS doe snot fix all pockets, it has controls that are just better than using a touch screen alone to play Pokémon!
Pokémon GO is a free augmented reality game that will be released later this year, exclusively for smartphones; it has been confirmed for iOS and for Android.
