Office 2008 for the Mac patch 12.2.3 primarily addresses stability problems. Several unique crash scenarios have been fixed in Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Document Connection. Security has also been upgraded, closing a hole which could be used to overwrite memory with malicious code.

Other Bug Fixes Target Functionality

  • Ensuring proper text spacing when a Windows Office document with an attached metafile is opened
  • Excel’s Workday option now properly excludes weekends and holidays
  • Entourage has been given updated timezones and junk mail filters.

The free update is a 350MB download, and can only be used with copies of Office for Mac that have already been updated to Mac Service Pack 1.
