Nokia’s Lumia 2520 tablet will land on Verizon on November 21, according to a post from the United States’ largest carrier. The Windows RT-powered tablet, Nokia’s first entry in the segment, will be available to Verizon customers for $500, and the carrier will not require a wireless contract for that price. Verizon is also getting a special red edition of the device for customers buying it online. Customers buying it in stores will only have access to a black version.
The 2520 packs a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor from Qualcomm clocked at 2.2GHz. It also has 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and a MicroSD slot supporting up to another 32GB of storage. Its rear camera has a resolution of 6.7MP, with autofocus and Zeiss optics. Its front-facing camera has a 2MP resolution. It also has HDMI outputs, USB 3.0 ports, Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, and NFC connectivity.
Nokia is pitching the device as a productivity tablet, and it does have access to a Windows RT version of Microsoft Office. It will not, though, run legacy Windows apps, as Windows RT is incapable of doing so. Instead, customers will be restricted to buying apps from the Windows Store.
The 2520 will hit Verizon one day before it is scheduled to arrive on the carrier’s chief rival, AT&T. AT&T is offering the device for $100 less than Verizon, but the carrier is also requiring that customers sign up for a two-year contract. Customers purchasing the Lumia tablet on AT&T can save another $200 by buying it alongside a new Lumia 925, Lumia 1020, or Lumia 1520.
