Nokia Siemens Networks on Tuesday dipped into end user hardware for the first time and started offering the USB-lte 7210 USB modem, and the CPEi-lte 7212 and the CPEo-lte 7210 wireless routers, to the public. Running mainly on TD-LTE networks used by China Mobile, they can deliver download speeds of up to 102Mbps and uploads as fast as 51. The effort is a direct result of the purchase of Motorola Solutions’ network gear business.
The devices use the 2.3GHz and 2.6GHz bands. The USB modem plugs into a USB port of a computer to deliver the network connection, while the 4G routers use Wi-Fi radios and Ethernet jacks to accomplish the same. The CPEi-lte 7212 is made for in-home use, while the CPEo-lte 7210 is made for the outdoors.
Pricing and release dates are unspecified, but aren’t likely to arrive in the US as no carrier uses this version of LTE in the region. Variants on them with regular LTE could be options in the long run.
