Nintendo has announced that it will launch its Nintendo Video service today for the 3DS handheld, though the initial launch is limited to customers in Japan. The company’s official video portal will provide access to 2D and 3D content, with new videos to be added periodically. Users will be able to access the range of videos for free.

Nintendo Video is the second 3D video service to arrive on the 3DS, following the Spot TV launch that occurred last month. The Spot TV content includes daily videos produced by Fuji TV and Nippon TV, with downloads available for free.

The first set of videos to be added to Nintendo Video include Tokyo Girls Collection, Yoshimoto Nintendo 3DS Experimental Theater, and a 3D tour of Kyoto. Customers in Japan will be able to download the Nintendo Video app beginning tomorrow.

3DS owners in the US and other markets will have to wait until later in the summer to access Nintendo Video content. Other providers, such as Netflix, are also working to bring 3D content to the mobile gaming platform.
