NewBay has announced that its LifeCache Social Networking Gateway (SNG) is powering social networking features and functionality on the new LG’ Optimus 3D. The LG Optimus 3D phone will be available in Europe first, and then in more than 60 markets around the world over the coming weeks.
LifeCache SNG integrates with LG’s social widget to provide users with a simple, easy to use, aggregated experience with their favorite social networks including Facebook and Twitter. The widget features a module that allows it to integrate social networking information it retrieves from the LifeCache SNG with other native device applications such as the user’s address book, calendar or camera – enabling users to easily share photos with Facebook friends and Twitter followers.
Commenting on the Optimus 3D social networking service, Steve French, VP of Global Marketing at NewBay said, “Using a single, centralized SNG as a social networking ‘enabler’ provides a common programming model and metaphor across all aspects of application functionality, which ensures developers only need to learn and integrate one consistent set of SNG APIs, hence expediting new service deployments. For the Optimus 3D service, LG’s widget uses a single API call to NewBay’s LifeCache SNG to retrieve user’s data from all their social networks, such as newsfeed, profile and messages, and instantly integrate this data with applications on the device.”
Most phones have separate Facebook and Twitter clients, but with LG these two apps are combined. A widget streams live social networking content to your screen, which is much simpler than having different apps, each of which needs to be clicked on to work. Additionally, your contacts in your LG address book are synced with your Facebook friends and Twitter followers, making for a ‘socially enabled’ address book. This experience has been designed to provide users with a highly integrated and aggregated way to keep on top of everyday social happenings.
