christopher-guestChristopher Guest has set up a movie with Netflix for exclusive release next year. The streaming service made the announcement for “Mascots” on Tuesday through a flyer for a mascot competition that gave few details. “Mascots” appears to be in the style of Guest’s mockumentaries “This Is Spinal Tap,” “Waiting for Guffman,” “Best In Show,” “A Mighty Wind” and “For Your Consideration.”

“Mascots” follows the “unusual” men and women of the 8th World Mascot Association championships competing for the prestigious Gold Fluffy Award.

Guest often writes with Eugene Levy and has used the same actors, including Catherine O’Hara, Michael McKean, Parker Posey, Jane Lynch and John Michael Higgins, in several films.

Netflix has been ramping up its feature film slate. In addition to signing a four-movie deal with Adam Sandler in 2014, Netflix landed worldwide rights to Brad Pitt’s “War Machine,” Kevin James’ “The True Memoirs of an International Assassin,” Cary Fukunaga’s “Beasts of No Nation” and Jamie Dornan’s “Jadotville” earlier this year.
