“Undateable” will be going live on both coasts. NBC’s Friday night comedy, which went live for its current third season, will shoot twice each night — once for the east coast broadcast and another for west coast — starting with tonight’s episode, and going forward for the remainder of the season.
The hourlong Season 3 premiere on Oct. 9 shot live twice for both east and west coast airings, but the “Undateable” team had not decided if the double shoot would continue for the remainder of the season’s episodes.
At the first table read for the live season, exec producer Bill Lawrence told Variety that shooting twice could carry on throughout the season, and likely would happen for special episodes. When asked if the show would tape twice to air live on both coasts, Lawrence said, “Depends — it depends on our mood, the casts mood. It doesn’t cost us that much more money for special hourlong ones so we’ll still do it, but half-hour ones, we won’t.”
Along with the live element, “Undateable” also implemented new live-friendly elements such as a daily Periscope, offering a behind the scenes look on set the day of the episode, plus a Social Lounge at the taping and musical guests. Tonight’s performer is the L.A.-based four-piece band Saint Motel.
“Undateable” stars Chris D’Elia, Brent Morin, Bianca Kajlich, Ron Funches, Rick Glassman, David Fynn and Bridgit Mendler. Lawrence exec producers with series creator Adam Sztykiel and Jeff Ingold. Doozer and Warner Bros. TV produces.
Last Friday’s Oct. 16 episode averaged a 0.9 same-day rating in adults 18-49, up a tenth from its hourlong season premiere of the previous week.
