Namco Networks has launched BIT.TRIP BEAT, the latest addition to Namco’s iOS catalogue. BIT.TRIP BEAT aims to be the arcade game for the new millennium, fusing Pong with interactive visual beats. Each level features its own original chiptunes song that builds as the player deflects the onslaught of spectacular retro beats flying at them. While the game mechanics sound relatively simple, the beats have different behaviors that present multiple challenges, including a boss battle at the end of each level. To add additional chaos to the game, up to two (four in a future update) players can join cooperatively via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi-”each with their own distinct paddle.

“We are extremely excited to extend the accessibility of the BIT.TRIP series to the iOS platform,” said Carlson Choi, vice president of marketing, Namco. “Not only does the game include multiplayer goodness with Apple’s Game Center but we’ve added fresh downloadable content, giving fans of the franchise a completely new experience.”

The BIT.TRIP series follows the hero, Commander Video, who proclaims, “I AM ONLY A MAN,” as he soars through the cosmos and learns what it means to exist. BEAT is the first chapter in this 6-game series and introduces players to a world of imagination and wonder through a minimalist presentation of sight, sound and gameplay where players catch a glimpse at a soul made tangible.

According to the Founder of Gaigan games, Alex Neuse, “We’re very excited for the BIT.TRIP series to join in the fight against digital boredom alongside the rank and file of legendary Namco franchises, such as PAC-MAN, Katamari Damacy and Mr. Driller. When considering a publishing partner for our series on mobile devices, Namco was among our top choices. After playing the final iPhone version, we positively freaked out. Namco has brought an absolutely pure BIT.TRIP experience to the mobile market and we look forward to continuing the series with them.”

Price and Availability
The entire original game is available on iPhone and iPad for $4.99 and $6.99, respectively. To further feed players’ addiction to the beat matching, three additional levels are offered exclusively on iOS devices for $1.99.
