Microsoft held a mock funeral for the BlackBerry and iPhone  was the new phone OS  goes R .   This news supports  the rumors that   Windows Phone 7 will be launched on October 11  in Europe. While  US availability may not be until Novemeber.

Now back in the day, MS had JAy Leno and a ferris wheel to launch Windows 95.   But you know these phone kids are, well lets just say “a little different.” They marked the recent completion of the mobile OS by holding a joke funeral procession for its rivals.   It was  both a parade and a funeral.    Some people acted as “pallbearers”‘ for oversized BlackBerry and iPhone   being carried behind hearses. At various points along the group, vehicles and sign wielders carried signs that WP7 “buries the competition” and shot at Android with a warning sign for “Android falling.”

The new OS is Microsoft’s first with real multi-touch, accurate web browser and other touches some competitors have had for years.    WMP does have Xbox Live support and a strong gaming  title list for launch, which could help drive interest  beyond that of  those looking for strong ties to Outlook and the office suite.   The Window Phone 7  team faces a battle that might make the one  the Internet Explorer team faced to get to the top  look like a walk in the park.
