Motorola has sent out invites for a special event in New York City on October 18 to add spark to its mobile line. The “Faster. Thinner. Smarter. Stronger” event has few details but will have “four reasons” to be interested, according to a teaser video clip below. The headliners are expected to be the Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition.

Both of the Android 3.2 tablets match the claims and are in many ways considered attempts to make up for a tepid reaction to the relatively thick and heavy original Xoom. Both will be much thinner and lighter while also getting a speed upgrade to a 1.2GHz processor. They should get an upgrade to a color-rich IPS panel; the Xoom 2 will be a direct upgrade to the 10-inch original, while the Media Edition should be an 8.2-inch model intended as a rival to an e-book reader.

Another candidate could be the Droid RAZR, better known as the Spyder or Droid HD. Early looks so far have it serving nearly as an early upgrade to the Droid Bionic with a switch to a 540×960 Super AMOLED and a slightly faster 1.2GHz processor.
