Fans of the round-faced Android Wear smartwatch can start saving up. There’s now evidence that Motorola’s Moto 360 is likely to cost $250 at launch, thanks to a detailed specs listing from Best Buy.
Best Buy has already taken down the listing, but screenshots obtained by Droid Life show the Moto 360 could sport a 1.5-inch, backlit LCD touchscreen with a 320 x 290 resolution. Its face will be covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, while the rest of the watch’s case will be made from stainless steel (and a plastic back). The bands will be made of leather.
That display is smaller and lower-res than the LG G Watch (1.65-inch 320 x 320) and the Samsung Gear Live (1.63-inch 320 x 320). Like the Gear Live, the Moto may also feature a built-in optical heart rate monitor. We’re hoping Motorola’s sensor is less finicky.
Of all the Android Wear watches announced at the unveiling of Google’s wrist-optimized operating system, the round-faced Motorola Moto 360 is the best-looking. The square-faced G Watch and Gear Live currently sell for $199 and $229 respectively, and if the leaks prove true, the Moto will be the most expensive of the lot.
If $250 sounds too pricey to you, there might be a cheaper alternative coming. ASUS CEO Jerry Shen recently told investors that the company is working on the cheapest Android Wear watch yet, potentially using a round face.
The fight for dominance in the growing smartwatch industry is heating up, with Apple rumored to launch a possible iWatch/iTime band this fall. Apple’s device is expected to run a version of iOS and have a heavy focus on fitness tracking.
