Kevin Rose’s new startup Milk has posted its first app project, the free Oink app. The iOS app serves as a way of recommending particular products at a location, such as a meal or a theme park ride, and ranks them based on the number of votes. Users can search for whatever’s best in a given area, and they can favorite, vote down, or give a ‘so-so’ rank if they think an item ranks in between.
While it doesn’t have pure check-ins like Foursquare, Oink tracks rankings and gives users “cred” that ranks them up and signals their votes as more trustworthy in certain areas. Some similar features, such as to-do lists and photo attachments, carry over.
Activity can share out over Foursquare as well as Facebook and Twitter.
The folks from Taap.it Live Local want to help any Oinkers who want to save their Oinks. Per Tom Nguyen, Community Manager withTaap.it: “With a simple, one step Oink-to-Taap Import Tool located at http://taap.it/import-oink , former Oinkers can convert their painstakingly accrued Oinks into Taaps, and continue rating specific things inside places.
