Microsoft Rewriting Zune HD Apps for Windows Phone

Microsoft is reportedly considering porting many Zune HD apps over to the Windows Phone platform. In a Zune Insider podcast, Zune senior business development manager Dave McLauchlan suggests the company is mulling the idea of reworking its internally-developed Zune HD titles for compatibility with the range of WP7 smartphones.

McLauchlan cautioned that Microsoft cannot port apps created by third parties, though the developers are welcome to follow the same route.

“Right now, our focus for the app team is, more apps for Zune [HD],” McLauchlan said, according to a transcript posted on Winrumors. “Zune [HD] owners would like to hear that there’s more stuff coming. So that’s definitely the case.”

Despite the references to new Zune HD apps and WP7 porting, the company is not ready to disclose additional details or provide a time-frame for the projects.
