Microsoft Lync Out for WP7 and Android – iOS in the Works

Posted by at 11:53 am on December 16, 2011

Microsoft has announced a mobile version of its Lync application for both its own Windows Phone 7 platform as well as Android. The free WP7 version  and the free Android version are now available for download, while a version for iOS has also been submitted for approval. Formerly known as Office Communicator, the app brings a combination of VoIP, instant messaging and conferencing.

A version for the Symbian platform has also been submitted for approval, making Lync the latest in a rapidly growing list of applications that Microsoft has started deploying for rival OS platforms. What is obvious, however, from the look and feel of the applications, is that they all closely emulate Microsoft’s Metro UI used in Windows Phone helping users get a feel for what using a Windows 7 phone might be like.

Currently, Microsoft has nine apps available for the iPhone on iTunes store. These include: OneNote, Kinectimals, Halo Waypoint, My XBOX LIVE, Windows Live Messenger, Microsoft Tag, Photosynth, SkyDrive and Crafting Guide for Age of Empires.
