MGM is reportedly developing a remake of iconic 1988 killer doll horror classic Child’s Play reports Collider.

The original followed a widowed mother who gives her son a doll for his birthday, unaware that the doll is possessed by the soul of infamous serial killer Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) who cast a spell before he was killed by the cops in the toy store where she acquired the doll.

The site says it’s a contemporary reboot involving a group of kids and a technologically-advanced doll in their world. Lars Klevberg (“Polaroid”) is set to direct from a script by Tyler Burton Smith (“Kung Fury,” video game “Quantum Break”).

David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith will produce and filming is slated to begin in September in Vancouver. The news follows on the heels of word from franchise creator Don Mancini who said a Child’s Play TV series is in the works.
