McAfee has announced that it will launch an online support community, enabling customers to interact with other users to resolve issues, share best practices, and discuss emerging trends. McAfee has partnered with Jive Software, a leader in social business software, to develop and host its new community space.

“Sharing information among peers is an increasing preference for our customers and an integral part of our social media strategy,” said Barry McPherson, executive vice president of worldwide support and services at McAfee. “The new support community will enable us to evolve beyond traditional phone and email based services and focus more on collaboration with our customers through discussions, blogs, wikis, user groups and community polling. The community will tie into our social media presence elsewhere on the Web where customer activity is increasing, and provide a hub with the tools to make conversations easier.”

McAfee, which is already monitoring Twitter and Facebook as part of its listening and response system, will launch the online support community in Q4 of 2009. The site will run on Jive’s Social Business Software platform (SBS) and will help McAfee increase customer satisfaction and loyalty, retain and reuse knowledge and enable customers to share experiences that may help others. Additionally, McAfee technicians, developers and product managers will be able to engage customers in new ways to help enhance products and improve processes.

McAfee also announced that the McAfee Email and Web Security Appliance and the McAfee Email Gateway (formerly IronMail) have once again received strong independent endorsement for functionality and performance. The McAfee Email and Web Security Appliance earned the VBSpam Platinum Certification, and the McAfee Email Gateway took VBSpam Gold, in an independent Internet gateway security product comparison between eight other competitive products.

The test measures the spam catch rate and the false positive rate averages for each product. The VBSpam Platinum rating is reserved for products with a total spam catch rate that is twice as high and a false positive rate twice as low as the average in the test. The McAfee Email and Web Security Appliance was the only product to receive a Platinum rating in this test. The VBSpam Gold rating is reserved for products with a total spam catch rate at least as high and a false positive rate at least as low as the average in the test. McAfee Email Gateway received a Gold rating in this test with the highest spam catch rate of all products tested.

“This test validates the market-leading effectiveness of McAfee’s anti-spam technology,” said Greg Hampton, vice president of product management. “With McAfee’s email and Web security solutions, our customers do not have to choose between high spam catch rates or low false positives, they get both. McAfee’s dedication to efficient and thorough security ensures that users are shielded from spam and email-based threats while legitimate emails are identified and delivered.”

The McAfee Email and Web Security Appliance is designed to protect small to medium sized businesses from spam, viruses, spyware, malicious Web sites and inappropriate Web surfing. The McAfee Email Gateway delivers total email protection for enterprises over 1000 users, integrating comprehensive inbound threat protection with on-box email data loss prevention.
