Marvel Looks Towards It’s Future With Alex Lozano’s “100TH ANNIVERSARY” Art Piece

Marvel Comics is looking to make its future a big one. Like really, really big. In advance of the publisher’s “100th Anniversary” initiative – a series of July debuting one-shots set to explore the possible Marvel Universe of the year 2061 – the team at Newsarama shared a massive piece of art from painter Alex Lozano highlighting the future versions of heroes like the Avengers and the X-Men. The piece will be broken up for variant covers of the five solo stories.

“Essentially we’re imaging what an issue might be like 47 years of publishing from now. For example, the Spider-Man special is being done as if you pulled that issue out of a back issue bin from the future and it was the end of the story-arc. Each issue deals with that in a somewhat similar fashion. They push you into the deep end of the pool and you have to figure out what’s going on,” Senior Editor Nick Lowe told CBR earlier this spring. “It’s not a dystopia. We’re trying to imagine what our real world will be like in 47 years of publishing and hopefully our real world won’t be a dystopia by that point. One can’t really tell. So it will be ‘the world outside of your window,’ like Marvel is now, but for 2061.”

The titles involved in the event include a “Guardians of the Galaxy” story by Andy Lanning, Ron Marz and Gustavo Duarte, “Spider-Man” by Sean Ryan and In-Hyuk Lee, “X-Men” by Robin Furth and Jason Masters, “Fantastic Four” by Jen Van Meter and Joanna Estep and “Avengers” by James Stokoe.
