Mad Catz Cyborg RAT Albino Gaming Mouse Arrives

Mad Catz on Thursday shipped its first real turn at a special edition high-end gaming mouse. The Cyborg RAT Albino expands on the original RAT by using a 6,400DPI sensor with better tracking and its namesake white color. The new version is appropriately one of the first to ship with Mac support from the start and should give those on Steam or the Mac App Store full control over over their games.

The deliberately odd-looking, modular design gives it a high degree of control that includes an extendable length to suit different grip styles. Owners can also replace the palm rests and grips with three different surfaces to adjust the texture or the dimensions. Inside, both the sensitivity of the laser sensor and the weight can be tweaked, ranging as low as 25DPI for tracking and as much as 30 grams (one ounce) of extra mass.

Five buttons are customizable on top of the basic two, and special RAT modes can give it access to as many as 15 commands at a time. Scrolling itself is unique with separate vertical and horizontal wheels.

The high-end Mad Catz mouse costs $100. Windows PC users get software in the box. Mac users get basic functionality without anything extra but need to download a Mac driver for Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later in order to get the full features.
