Kobo today updated it’s self-titled e-reader app for iOS devices to further extend its “social eReading” feature Reading Life, adding the ability for users to post quotes, notes, book covers and other aspects of their social reading to their Twitter feed. Readers can already use the Reading Life service to unlock achievements and discover new books, or post information about the book they are reading to Facebook. The company reports that Reading Life has helped its users dramatically increase their reading time since being implemented late last year.

Kobo added that over 90 percent of their Reading Life users — itself accessed by 98 percent of its customers — connect their profile to Facebook, so adding Twitter will help Kobo readers to reach out to other friends, post quotes and passages from books, share cover art and recommendations as well as tracking their own personal reading history and trends. The company reports that its users have increased their average reading time by over 50 percent since Reading Life was implemented.

The Reading Life iOS app also enables users to chat with friends, start reading books recommended by friends and organize the users’ own reading library. In addition to books, Kobo also offers newspaper and magazines for purchase. The app itself is free for iPhone and iPod Touch or iPad, and the update to add Twitter functionality can be added by existing Kobo app users.
