Legendary horror film director John Carpenter has not made a film since 2010, he’s been busy touring the world performing iconic songs from his soundtracks and letting other folks handle the task of remaking some of his early films, like Halloween.

Next, Carpenter is going to the small screen with a new anthology series Tales For A Halloween Night that has been eagerly picked up y Syfy. The project will be based on Carpenter’s graphic novel series of the same name, which pulls together a variety of scary tales. Essentially, it sounds like it will be a more horror leaning Black Mirror or The Twilight Zone. Here’s the book synopsis:

From John Carpenter, the man who brought you the cult classic horror film Halloween and all of the scares beyond comes the ultimate graphic novel anthology of tales to warm your toes by on a dark and stormy October night! Carpenter brings together storytellers from the worlds of movies, novels and comics for a collection of tales featuring graveyards, sunken ships, creepy crawlers and ghosts to haunt your dreams at night!

Next up, Carpenter is developing Nightside, based on the book series by Simon R. Green. Set in London, it involves creatures of the night moving unseen by the city at large. Here’s the synopsis of the first book:

John Taylor is not a private detective per se, but he has a knack for finding lost things. That’s why he’s been hired to descend into the Nightside, an otherworldly realm in the center of London where fantasy and reality share renting space and the sun never shines.

For John Taylor, there’s no place like home…

No word yes on whether Carpenter will be directing either project.
