Instagram today announced an expansion of its online presence in order to make it easier for users to view and share photos.
Rather than be constrained to smartphone apps, the new web-based profiles allow users to view their photos, adjust their profile settings, edit their photos, share them with other web-based services, and follow other Instagram users. Instagram said, however, that photos can only be added to Instagram from mobile devices. Individual user profiles will go live on the web in the next week or so.
Images that are set to “public” will be accessible to anyone on the web.
