IK Multimedia has made a version of its iOS-based iRig HD for Android Devices, with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 being the first compatible device. The iRig HD-A digital guitar interface is also accompanied by an Android version of the AmpliTube app, the guitar processing app, which will also only work with Samsung mobile devices.
The hardware side is similar to the iOS original, offering a high-impedance mini jack connection, which can be used in tandem with the iRig guitar interface adapter or iRig Stomp pedal interface to receive audio from a guitar or bass. Offering 24-bit, 48kHz analog to digital conversion, it has an onboard gain potentiometer with a multicolor LED to show the optimal signal level. The accompanying OTG cable for connecting to a smartphone’s microUSB port can also be switched out for a USB version, allowing the iRig HD-A to be used with a computer.
The AmpliTube app works with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge, and soon on the Galaxy S5, Note 3, and others, via the app’s use of the Samsung Professional Audio System to minimize the latency of audio processing. The app includes support for a full guitar rig made up of three stompbox effects, an amp, speaker cabinet, and microphone. It comes with 11 stompbox effects, five amps, five cabinets, and two microphone effects, allowing users to recreate a wide variety of guitar tones, and includes 15 configurable presets.
The AmpliTube app is being offered in a free version with limited capabilities, as well as paid LE and Full versions for $10 and $20 respectively through the Samsung Apps store, though Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge users get the LE version free under the Galaxy Gifts program. The iRig HD-A, guitar interface and Stomp guitar pedal are priced at $100, $40, and $70 respectively.
