HP has reworked its Pavilion notebooks to include a new entry level line and to re-launch two dv models . The 14-inch G4, 15.6-inch G6 and 17.3-inch G7 replace HP’s starter models and have a new look that brings some of the more minimalist, upscale design traits from the dv series with less expensive materials. All of them have Altec Lansing speakers to boost the audio and options such as Blu-ray.

HP hasn’t given detailed specifications for the series, but the base prices of $500, $450 and $600 for the G4, G6 and G7 respectively point to Pentium dual-core and Core i3 chips. All three are due to ship on March 13 and so aren’t likely to include chipsets that would be affected by Intel’s Sandy Bridge chipset flaw.

Both the dv6 and dv7 are similar to how they were unveiled in January and will use upgraded Sandy Bridge Core i5 and i7 chips along with AMD’s Radeon 6000M series, culminating in the Radeon HD 6850M in the larger dv7. A dark umber color for the aluminum shell is also now standard. They carry Beats audio and are now known to have four separate speakers as well as a subwoofer on the dv7. Their design uses CoolSense to more intelligently ramp cooling up or down.

USB 3.0 is stock, and Blu-ray is optional along with a fingerprint reader and up to either 1TB (on the dv6) or 2TB (on the dv7) of disk space.

Due to the Sandy Bridge flaw delay, the dv6 and dv7 won’t ship until an unknown point in the spring and pricing wil be disclosed at a later point.
