The HP Envy 17 3D notebook introduced at the start of September will begin shipping from HP on November 5. The base system starts at $1,600, and for that money, buyers get 3D active shutter glasses, a quad 1.6GHz Core i7 CPU, a dual-layer Blu-ray writer and 6GB of RAM. A 500GB, 7,200RPM hard drive is stock, with up to a 2TB, 5,200RPM unit available. Buyers can also opt for a dual drive setup that consists of a 160GB SSD and a 640GB, 7,200RPM rotating disk. There is a built-in 2.1-channel Beats audio system to match the visuals.

Other major options include 1.73GHz or 1.86GHz Core i7 CPUs, 8GB of RAM and an oversized nine-cell battery. A six-cell battery is standard.
