As 343 Industries promised before the release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, the Spartan Ops mode from Halo 4 has now been added to the game.

Spartan Ops is a scoring-based mode where you control your own, unique Spartan with custom loadouts instead of the Master Chief.

You’re part of Fireteam Crimson who, led by Officer Sarah Palmer, embark on ten episodes worth of side-missions, complete with Halo 4’s flashy and impressive cutscenes that keep an eye of Dr Catherine Halsey, as she secretly communicates with the Covenant.

The addition comes free in charge as part of the game’s latest December update, which includes a host of changes to try and act against the crippling matchmaking issues that have plagued the Collection since November.

The key issue that 343 intend to resolve in the update will be the matter of players becoming stuck in the ‘Joining Session’ stage, allowing the player searches to reset quicker. All split screen players will now be able to vote on a map, and the ‘Boxer’ and ‘Legacy’ button layouts have been added as an option to Halo 2 and Halo 4, respectively.

Alongside many general stability improvements, online sessions will now only commence when both teams have an even amount of players, and the sometimes-sketchy hit registration in Halo: Combat Evolved games should be fixed.
