Guillermo del Toro has come aboard The Bloody Benders as a producer, Deadline reports. Based on a true story, the film version arrives with a spec script from Adam Robitel.
Nicknamed “The Bloody Benders,” John and Kate Bender owned an inn at the end of the 19th century in Labette County, Kansas with their son and daughter, also named John and Kate. For several years, the Benders were believed responsible for a series of grisly murders, killing those who stayed at their inn with a complex system that involved a trap door, a blow to the head with a hammer and the disposal of the bodies on the frontier property.
Del Toro’s Necropia Entertainment will team with Susan Montford and Don Murphy’s Angry Films to get production on the project moving in the very near future. Del Toro, meanwhile, is working on Pacific Rim, targeting a July 12, 2013 release.
