Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is another cool superhero handheld game — this time on the 3DS — and it’s no surprise as it’s from Griptonite Games, the same developer behind Captain America on DS.

BTW Green Lanterns are basically the galaxy’s police force. The known universe is broken up into sectors, and each sector has a Green Lantern to watch over it. Green Lanterns can create objects made of light from his or her power ring, fly and take out bad guys.

The game is at its core is simple side-scroller. You move Hal across the screen with the 3DS nub, blast bad guys with the ring, and double jump to fly. From the air, Hal can use his ring to drop an anchor or car to crush foes. By swirling on the touchscreen, you can scan enemies to discover their weaknesses. Tapping icons on the touchscreen creates special constructs like a massive gun or bomb and then takes time to recharge.

The Nintendo 3DS version of the game is designed specifically to take advantage of the system’s stereoscopic 3D capabilities and deliver multi-plane graphics that really adds to the game play.

Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is inspired by Warner Bros Pictures’ upcoming Green Lantern film, which brings the enduringly popular DC Comics Super Hero to the big screen for the first time and stars Ryan Reynolds in the title role as Hal Jordan, the newest member of the Green Lantern Corps.

Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is in development for Wii, Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS by Griptonite Games and for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 by Double Helix Games.

The game will shipp on June 7. So gamers will get a 10-day advance before checking out the blockbuster movie in theaters on June 17, 2011 in 3D or 2D.
