Great White Shark Flick “Meg” Now Has a Summer 2018 Release Date

Warner BrosMeg was originally set for March 2 of next year but is now moving back to August 10, 2018, to be be released in 3D and Imax. The movie is based on Steve Alten’s bestselling novel about Navy deep-sea submersible pilot Jonas Taylor, who once came in contact with the Carcharodon megalodon apex predator, a 70-foot, 60,000-pound Great White Shark with hundreds of 7-inch serrated teeth. Jonas barely escaped, but must prove to the world that Meg still exists.
On its new date, the only thing Meg has to worry about isn’t Jonas, but Universal’s reboot of Scarface. That second weekend of August is arguably the last time there’s a major cash grab for studios and exhibitors before the under-21 set starts heading back to school. In the weekend prior to Meg and Scarface, Disney has the first frame of August RSVP’ed for an untitled live-action movie they haven’t uncorked yet. There’s also Sony’s Will Ferrell-John C. Reilly comedy Holmes And Watson.
