Google today made a new version of its Translate application available to the Android platform. The revised app comes with several handy new features, including the ability to use the camera to take a picture of text and then select the text for translation.

The new Google Translate app also adds instant translation results while typing, includes dialect preference for speech input, makes improvements to Japanese handwriting recognition, and added a new network access state permission requirement.

Google Translate 2.5 requires Android 2.1 and up (2.3 for the camera feature) and is a free download from the Google Play Store.
