Google to Close Down Slide

Google is reportedly set to shutter Slide, the social app developer that was acquired by the search giant just last year. The startup had continued to develop new apps after it was purchased, leading to the recent release of a new photo-sharing service, Photovine, which shocked people when it was released on the iOS App Store without an equivalent launch on the Android Market.

The search company’s plans to cease operations at Slide may shed light on the decision to omit the app from the Android platform, however, as the company is said to be pulling the startup’s range of content from both app portals.

Google has yet to provide full details regarding the Slide move, though the decision has been blamed on a reorganization that placed Google+ development into the hands of the company’s existing employees rather than staff picked up through acquisitions.

Former slide leader Max Levchin and product head Jared Fliesler are said to be leaving Google, however the search company is expected to retain most of the 100 employees that were added from the buyout
