Google Improves Gmail’s Spam Filters

Icon-GmailGoogle has detailed some behind-the-scenes updates it is making to Gmail that should reduce the amount of spam people see in their inbox.

Google said the spam filter now uses an artificial neural network to detect and block spam that could be well-disguised as wanted mail. Machine learning should make it easier to manage emailed newsletters automatically.

The spam filter is better at spotting email impersonation, which is often used in phishing scams.

Last, Google made available several tools to help legitimate bulk email senders assure that their emails aren’t caught by spam filters.

Gmail users don’t need to do anything to benefit from the improved spam filters.
