Google recently provided a significant update to its search product for Android devices. Among the many new features added to the app, Google Goggles now supports devices that don’t have autofocus cameras, which means it will be available to more entry-level smartphones.
The new Google Goggles is also faster and better at tracking objects when in continuous mode, and the search-from-camera feature now works without first enabling search history. Goggles also bolsters its QR-scanning abilities, and will show a thumbnail if the QR code has an embedded URL, will scan URLs against known malicious links, and can read a wider array of bar codes.
Last, Google Goggles will offer search results that appear similar to the subject if it can’t find an exact match. The update is free.
