Microsoft’s has poached Samsung’s consumer and enterprise services VP Gavin Kim. The executive confirmed in talking to BGR that he would be the general manager of the Windows Phone team. The move would see him “set the future direction” for the mobile OS.

He was enthusiastic about the jump, and saw it as a chance to work with some of Microsoft’s better-known mobile leads, including Andy Lees, Achim Berg, and Joe Belfiore. His signing on was a sign of “chemistry and potential” between himself and the team. To him, there was already a very loyal core base that could be expanded.

“In my experience, there is an already fervent base of Windows Phone supporters out there and they all get it,” he said. “It is really my new job to make sure we reflect that message clearly in our product and marketing collaborations with all of our partners to create more Windows Phone believers.”
