American Vampire CoverBall State adjunct professor/doctoral candidate Christina Blanch is giving comic-book fans another opportunity to learn about the medium from the writers and artists who know it best. Starting in March, “Social Issues Through Comic Books” will explore exactly that — and, again, anyone can enroll for free.

The six-month course plans to examine social issues like the environment, addiction, privacy and social inequality by reading comic books including Daredevil, Swamp Thing and Scalped. Along with the readings and lectures, Blanch will conduct live interviews during the course with popular creators including Mark Waid, Scott Snyder and Denny O’Neil.

“This will be more than a class,” Blanch says in the course description. “It’s a formation of a community.”

The course runs from March 10 to Aug. 18. Interested students can sign up for free over at canvas.net.
